Welcome to the North Slope Research Website!

The intent of this web site is to provide a forum for sharing information on practices and technologies applied to the exploration and production of oil and gas resources on Alaska's North Slope, focusing on how these practices and technologies have served to reduce the environmental "footprint" associated with exploration and production. Information regarding technologies and practices is presented here both from a tabular view (i.e. normal database queries) and in geographic view (i.e. information oriented in map views).

This web site originally began as a means for posting information from a workshop on "Established Oil and Gas Practices and Technologies on Alaska's North Slope", conducted in Anchorage, Alaska in April 2000. The proceedings from this workshop as well as other papers on environmental issues associated with exploration and production in northern Alaska are included in this web site, as are links to various stakeholder web sites from industry, government, and private organizations. A second workshop is scheduled for February 27 and 28, 2003 at the Egan Center in Anchorage. This second workshop will focus on technologies and environmental studies conducted on the North Slope. Additional information on topics, speakers, sponsors, and workshop registration will be posted as it becomes available. Abstracts for papers to be presented will also be posted prior to the workshop.

Although the focus of the site is currently limited to the North Slope of Alaska, the site will eventually be expanded to include the Gulf of Mexico and possible other regions of oil and gas production.
